Abnormal Carbohydrate Metabolism in Uremia

Abstract
Evidence is presented that intact human forearm muscle is less than normally responsive to insulin with respect to glucose and phosphorus uptake; potassium uptake is unimpaired, however, and lactate production is normally proportional to glucose uptake. Speculation as to the genesis of this abnormality on the basis of the data presented would be presumptuous, but it is clear that study of this aspect of uremia must proceed at the cellular level.
