Abstract
One hundred seventy‐eight grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) were stocked in seven ponds and evaluated as game fish based on catchability and organoleptic properties. In over 427 hours fishing with four types of baits, only nine fish were hooked and two landed. Organoleptic properties of grass carp were generally acceptable to a 28‐member taste panel; the species was significantly less preferred (5% level) to channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus), but not to bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) or largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides). Indications are the grass carp has limited potential as a game fish in East Tennessee ponds. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
