STUDY OF FAT ABSORPTION UTILIZING I131-LABELED CORN OIL IN INFANTS AND CHILDREN WITH AND WITHOUT STEATORRHEA

Abstract
A method for measuring the absorption of I131-labeled fat is presented. In normal infants the degree of fat absorption, by the method presented, appears to be a function of age. In infants and children with cystic fibrosis of the pancreas the test provides a means of studying the lipolytic function of the pancreas and the efficacy of the addition of pancreatic extracts to the diet. The test provides a means of recognizing the presence and severity of the celiac state where it is a factor in malnutrition.
