Abstract
A total of 50 Sprague-Dawley adult male rats were used to compare the effects of intratesticular injection of 0.2 ml of hyperosmolar solutions of glycerol, glucose and NaCl with or without simultaneous treatment with indomethacin or dexamethasone. The hyperosmolar solutions caused a characteristic focal lesions with destruction of central testicular tissue as early as 12 hr after injection, and an inflammatory leukocytic halo present throughout the first week after injection. Neither anti-inflammatory drug altered this lesion. We concluded that intratesticular sterilization by hyperosmolar solutions is not a viable means of male contraception.
