Abstract
Trans-Saharan migrants trapped on Crete [Greece] in the autumns of 1974 and 1976 were examined for suspended molt. Some willow warblers [Phylloscopus trochilus] and most whitethroats [Sylvia communis] had failed to complete molt of remiges before migration, while most turtle doves [Streptopelia turtur], spotted flycatchers [Muscicapa striata] and red-backed shrikes [Lanius collurio] had begun molt of the remiges then. Pre-migratory molt had progressed less in the eastern populations sampled here than in western populations sampled previously in Iberia. This difference may be explained by differences in the timing of breeding seasons between east and west Europe. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
