Abstract
To the Editor: A tuberculin reaction may be "boosted" from no reaction (or only 3 to 9 mm) on an initial test to a reaction that is considered "positive" (10 mm or more of induration) when a person is retested at a later time. It appears that such a booster effect may occur in persons whose tuberculin sensitivity has waned with time and also in those who harbor an inapparent infection with one of the "atypical" species of mycobacteria (e.g., M. intracellulare, M. kansasii or M. scrofulaceum).
