New observations on the determination of bacterial lipid phosphorus

Abstract
A microprocedure potentially useful in serial determinations of phosphatides or lipid phosphorus is described, in which lipid liberation is accomplished by heating bacterial specimens with aqueous methanol under pressure in Teflon-capped tubes. Data are also presented which suggest that the ease of lipid removal from bacterial cells is a negative function of their wall and membrane content.
