Abstract
Problems associated with the systematic treatment of apomictic fern complexes of eastern North America are discussed. Examples are drawn from the literature and include primarily the genera Polypodium and Asplenium, although reference is made also to other genera. The emphasis is on different forms of apomixis rather than a catalogue of all known apomictic ferns of the region. Discussion relates to the treatment of apomictic versus sexual ferns for the Flora North America Project. Keywords
