Abstract
Significant improvement in the therapeutic monitoring of antiepileptic drug concentrations in the laboratories participating in the Antiepileptic Drug Quality Control Program has been observed. In contrast to the 1974 blind survey results where over 50 percent of the laboratories were unsatisfactory, a recent assessment of performance based upon results from monthly proficiency samples demonstrates that 88 percent of the laboratories were performing satisfactory phenytoin assays. The performance on phenobarbital primidone, carbamazepine and ethosuximide assays also demonstrates a marked improvement. Proficiency testing has significantly improved the routine of antiepileptic drug monitoring. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
