Abstract
THROAT cultures, when evaluated in conjunction with clinical manifestations, are a valuable aid in the diagnosis of streptococcal respiratory infections, and follow-up cultures in such infections are helpful in assessing the results of therapy. In spite of their value throat cultures are used only infrequently by most physicians in their practice of medicine. Because of this fact a study was conducted to determine whether it would be feasible for parents to culture the throats of their children and for adults to culture their own throats.
