Abstract
Summary: 1. The literature on alveolar soft part sarcoma –a distinct and recently recognized tumour arising in association with skeletal muscle, is reviewed.2. Three new cases are recorded, and their clinical and pathological features are described.3. The differential diagnosis of the tumour is discussed, with especial reference to its separation from secondary carcinoma.4. The evidence for the histogenesis of the tumour is outlined, and it is concluded that it bears no relation to tumours arising in chemoreceptor tissue such as the carotid body. Keywords
