Abstract
The purpose of this article was to assess the relative degree of professionalization of rehabilitation counseling by analyzing this occupation in terms of widely accepted sociological notions concerning the definition and elements of professions and the process of professionalization. It was found that rehabilitation counseling is a marginal profession, that is, an occupation which. while: professionalizing, has not as yet fully completed the process to the extent as have the so-called estnblished professions. Finally, it was determined that the traditional criteria employed in evaluating the professional status of manner or emerging occupations, do not fully reflect social and economic realities, especially as relaled to bureaucratization and consumerism. Keywords
