Abstract
Diet of the red howler monkey (A. seniculus) was studied through the analysis of 61 gut contents and of 380 excrements, all from a population of the Venezuelan Llanos (Apure State). A list is provided of the vegetal species and proportion of food categories used. The howlers of the population are strictly vegetarian, feeding on approximately equal amounts of leaves and fruit; their 3rd choice is flowers and legume pods. Trophic diversity is slightly higher for males than for females, although there was no difference in the proportions of fruits and leaves consumed. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
