Manic-Depressive Illness in Early Childhood

Abstract
The 11 1/2-month-old boy described was believed to have a manic-depressive illness, based upon a set of criteria for use in the diagnosis of bipolar illness and the patient's very positive family history. The question is raised as to whether the average age of onset might decrease with the development of better diagnostic criteria and more case reporting.
