DISTRIBUTION AND FATE OF 131I IN THE MAMMALIAN OVARY

Abstract
In an autoradiographic investigation 131I was found to be concentrated in the ovarian follicles of mammalian ovaries. Up to 4 hours after intravenous administration of 131I-iodide accumulation was mainly found in the walls of large Graafian follicles. After 24 hours the concentration was highest in the follicular fluid. Precipitation and dialysis experiments indicated that the radioactivity was mainly present as iodide ions and no significant incorporation into organic compounds was observed.
