Abstract
The insulin sensitivity of normal, thyroidectomised and thyroxine-treated rabbits was studied by using the glucose insulin tolerance test (G.LT.T.). The value of the glucose assimilation coefficient was taken as a measure of insulin sensitivity. In thyroidectomized animals, decreased glucose assimilation coefficient values and a longer duration of the nadir of the glycemic curve were observed. After treating the animals with thyroxine we found an increase of assimilation coefficient of glucose in the G.LT.T., a shorter time necessary to reach the nadir of the glycemic curve, and a decreased lowest blood sugar value in the G.LT.T.
