To prescribe or not to prescribe.

Abstract
It could be argued that prescribing is the next logical step for nurses. On the other hand, becoming more like doctors could be a betrayal of nursing's essential strengths. Helen Clarke and Lorna Macnamara debate the issues NURSE PRESCRIBING is the logical outcome of the development of the nursing profession. With the many 'new ways of working' proposed in the government's nursing strategy, Making a Difference, it is easy to forget that we are still talking about nursing assessment and care management, rather than medical diagnosis and treatment.
