Abstract
The monotypic genus Damnamenia is described, being based on the distinctive Subantarctic species D. vernicosa (Celmisia vernicosa J. D. Hooker). Relationships with allied genera are discussed and generic boundaries are suggested within an Australasian generic complex containing species referred to Celmisia, Damnamenia, Erigeron, Olearia, and Pleurophyllum. Study of members of the complex indicates that the key to classification of this group hes not in searching for unique attributes, but in differentiating genera on the basis of numerous character differences.
