Prevention of Peritonitis during Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis

Abstract
The measures taken to prevent peritonitis in patients undergoing CAPD depend on the routes of bacterial invasion of the peritoneum (Table I). Although we do not know the exact contribution of each route to the development of peritonitis, the intraluminal probably is the most important. Table la gives an estimate of the contribution of each route of access to such development. For practical purposes the means of prevention have been classified according to the routes of infection they attempt to block.
