Abstract
In this paper we summarize the analysis of nonmetric theories of gravity described in detail in some previous papers. One of the main results of this analysis is that in a spherically symmetric, static gravitational field, the class of metric-affine theories of gravity (MATG's) must take on their metric form. Some MATG's in the literature are then classified and analyzed, with the result that none of the theories investigated are viable. Keywords
