Hyporeninemic Hypoaldosteronism Associated with Focal Glomerular Sclerosis in a Patient with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Abstract
Severe hyperkalemia in the presence of moderate renal failure due to focal glomerular sclerosis was observed in an 80-year-old male with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism (HH) was diagnosed on the basis of low plasma renin activity and very low urinary aldosterone levels. The hyperkalemia was effectively corrected with fludrocortisone and furosemide. The possible causes of HH in this case are discussed.
