Beta decay ofC16andN17

Abstract
The delayed neutron emitters C16 and N17 have been studied with a He3 neutron detector and γ radiations have been measured with a Ge(Li) detector. C16 was formed in the reaction C14(O18, O16)C16 with 56-MeV O18 ions, and also in the reaction B11(Li7,2p)C16 with 40-MeV Li7 ions. The thermalized neutrons following both reactions yield together a C16 half-life of 0.747 ± 0.008 sec with the well-known 4.17-sec N17 activity as an accompaniment formed in the C14(O18, N17)N15 and B11(Li7,p)N17 reactions.
