A 60-Hz .45-sec current was delivered to chicks 10 sec. after a learning trial. 18 intensities from .1-120 ma. were used in different experimental groups. Retention was measured 22 hr. later. Retrograde amnesia (RA) was obtained with convulsive and some subconvulsive currents. Above the RA threshold, the percentage of Ss displaying a retention deficit increased gradually with current intensity, but did not vary with convulsion pattern. Results from control groups indicated that currents did not function as punishment to the chicks. 3645 Ss were used. (21 ref.) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
