Abstract
Pathogenic mechanisms of anaphylactic and Arthus type reactions are reviewed in hypersensitive patients with emphasis on farmer''s lung and pigeon breeders disease. Clinical presentations are discussed characterized by impaired pulmonary function, hypoxemia, hyperventilation and lung infiltration derived from chest roentgenographic examination. Detection of increased immunoglobulins(Ig)E, IgM and IgA by radioimmunoassay and evaluation of thymus derived lymphocyte function are discussed to confirm diagnosis and possibly identify the sensitizing agent. A specific therapy is not prescribed, but avoidance and proliferative suppression of sensitizing agents are suggested for management. This publication has 17 references indexed in Scilit:
