Abstract
A French version of the Beck Depression Inventory [BDI] was validated on a sample of 498 randomly selected French speaking university students. The internal-consistency reliability measure showed a coefficient of 0.92 for the standard 21 item form and 0.90 for the short 13 item form. The test-retest procedure indicated adequate stability (r = 0.62, P < 0.001) over a 4 mo. period. The norms obtained with the present sample correspond to those obtained with American [USA] college students. The factor analysis of the questionnaire items yielded 3 factors accounting for 75.8% of the variance. Both the standard and short form of the French version of the BDI were valid instruments for use in a college population. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
