Abstract
Results obtained by use of ascorbic acid as substrate in the presence of cytochrome c show that sulfaguanidine, sulfa-thiazole, thiouracil and cysteine do not inhibit cytochrome oxidase of thyroid tissue, that thiourea causes little inhibition, and that glutathione inhibits approx. 50%. Under the conditions used no inhibition of succinic dehydrogenase of thyroid tissue was obtained by use of these compounds. These results suggest that the sulfonamides do not act through the succinoxidase system. Keywords
