Abstract
Focal glomerular sclerosis (FGS) with the nephrotic syndrome is a disease of unknown etiology with its peak incidence in the 3rd and 4th decades. Less than 2% of reported patients are older than 60 yr of age and no patients over 70 yr of age have been described. The occurrence of FGS and the nephrotic syndrome in 4 patients with an average age of 70 yr, 3 being septuagenarians, was documented with renal biopsies. FGS in these patients may represent a disease of senescence and FGS in younger patients may result from accelerated glomerulotubular senescence. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
