Abstract
Symmetrised Kronecker squares of irreducible representations of line groups are decomposed into irreducible constituents. Sections rules for linear vibronic-coupling matrix elements are derived. They provide a systematic method of identification of the Peierls models in conducting polymers and quasi-one-dimensional metals. Keywords
