TREATMENT OF SCLERODERMA WITH PROCAINE

Abstract
Four patients with scleroderma were treated with multiple intravenous infusions of 0.1 and 0.2 per cent solutions of procaine hydrochloride over a period of several months. A rapid and dramatic improvement was observed in the first patient within 72 hours after this treatment was instituted. The improvement has persisted in this patient as well as in the other three. REPORT OF CASES Case 1.— L. S., a white man aged 60, was first seen on Oct. 18, 1949, complaining of slowly progressive and generalized thickening, hardening and discoloration of the skin. He stated further that he had been bothered with recurrent ulcerations and scarring of the tips and bony prominences of the joints of the fingers of both hands and an ulcer on the right foot.
