Abstract
A case of toxoplasmic chorioretinitis is presented, confirmed by a positive culture obtained in mouse brains and by an antibody response of the subcutaneously inoculated guinea pig. All tests (Dye test, complement fixation test, and passive hemagglutination test) executed with serum and aqueous humor of the patient were negative for toxoplasmosis. Immunoelectrophoresis demonstrated normal values of [beta]- and gamma-globulines. The only specific indication of toxoplasmic infection was a weakly positive skin test. Consequently, in case of chorioretinitis, toxoplasmosis cannot be excluded by negative serological reactions; so aspiration of exudate and culture in mouse brain should be done. It appears that for a successful culture two factors are of primary importance: a short delay between the aspiration of the exudate and the injection into the mouse brain; the maintenance of the material at a constant temperature close to that of the human body during this procedure. Keywords
