Abstract
Titration and swelling curves of the human aortic albuminoid (collagen and elastin) fraction were detd. by incubating ground samples in solns. of varying concns. of HC1 and NaOH and measuring the pH of the resultant supernatant soln. Except for a trend towards increased combination with HC1 with increasing age and atherosclerosis, no marked changes with respect to differing age and atherosclerosis were observed. The titration curves were characterized by extension of the iso-electric point into an isoelectric range between approx. pH 5 and 10. Maximal swelling was observed at approx. pH 12.Keywords
