Eczema Herpeticum as Complication of Darier's Disease

Abstract
The occurrence of eczema herpeticum (Kaposi'' s varicelliform eruption) after a sunburn in an adult with Darier''s disease is described. The sunburn brought about a flare-up of the Darier''s disease which previously had been well controlled with vitamin A. Four days after the sunburn widespread primary eczema herpeticum developed, largely within areas of Darier''s disease. The diagnosis was confirmed by viral studies. Although Kaposi''s varicellif orm eruption rarely has been recorded in Darier''s disease, it represents a potential complication of this disorder. Exposure to the virus of herpes simplex and vaccinia should be avoided by patients who are in the active stage of Darier''s disease.
