Abstract
Reviewing past research effortsfacilitates improvement and understanding of research in tourism . Such an examination indicates the direction of research and methodological sophistication in the field. Analysis techniques provide an index of research proficiency. This article provides a description of the statistical techniques used in the "Journal of Travel Research ," "Annals of Tourism Research," and "Tourism Management" by review ing these journals over a 10-year period. Descriptive statistics represent the majority of techniques employed. Regression/correlation, models, analysis of variance (ANOVA), nonparametric techniques, and factor analysis, in descending order, are the next most commonly used methods. Findings also indicate current tourism literature makes increased use of sophisticated techniques. Examination of articles in the three major tourism journals reveals opportunities for improved understanding and use of statistical analyses. Keywords
