Abstract
Inhibition of root growth was observed inChenopodium rubrum under photoperiodic conditions inducing flowering. That this inhibition is mediated by the cotyledons was shown directly by the effect of their excision, which changes the responsiveness of the roots to photoperiodic treatment. On the other hand, decapitation did not lead to such an effect. Some evidence is put forward suggesting that changes in IAA may be involved in these correlations. The existence of two different mechanisms of photoperiodic action in flowering and in root growth is proposed to explain these differences. Keywords
