BRUCELLA ARTHRITIS OF THE HIP JOINT: A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE AND REPORT OF A CASE TREATED WITH TERRAMYCIN

Abstract
The authors review briefly the 8 reported cases and give a detailed account of one new case from Manitoba. B. abortus was recovered from blood and bone marrow, but not from the involved joint. Serum agglutinations substantiated the diagnosis and were repeated at intervals during the course of the disease. Diagnostic methods are briefly reviewed. Terramycin was admn. in divided doses totalling 3 g. daily for 28 days, with clinical improvement within 5 days. The patient was followed for 24 mos. with no sign of recurrence. Serial X-ray pictures showed restoration of the destroyed joint.
