Sudden Death Due to Coronary Atherosclerotic Heart Disease

Abstract
A study was made of age, smoking habits, and frequency of recent coronary thrombi in 102 men who died suddenly of a first clinical episode of coronary atherosclerotic heart disease. The average age at time of death was 16 years less in those who smoked cigarettes heavily than it was in the non smokers, while that in the lighter and former smokers was intermediate. The frequency of recent coronary arterial thrombi was 19% and revealed no correlation with smoking habits.
