Abstract
The authors begin by defining what they mean by recurrence. Next they compare valvular (or trunk, or systematized varicose, depending on which terminology is used) disorders, and parietal (diffused varicose) disorders while at the same time recognizing the existence of mixed forms of the condition. They examine the case histories of 400 patients with recurrence. Of these, 107 recurred even though they were given correct treatment initially. They were re-operated and studied according to their age, sex, profession, whether they took the oestroprogesterone contraceptive pill and according to the anatomoclinical type of varicosity. Based on this study, the authors specify which types of varicose disorder are susceptible to relapse, and give possible explanations for the relapse in terms of the histology, biophysics, biochemistry, genetics and endocrinology. The aetiopathology, however, remains to be fully identified.
