Abstract
Smith and Allison (4) reported significant increase in yields of tomato in one experiment due to inoculation with phosphobacterin but in subsequent experiments on tomato and wheat, no favourable effects due to inoculation were observed. Mishustin (2) reviewed the work on bacterial fertilisers and reported that when the effect was favourable yields of field crops increased by 10–13% on soils of high fertility. The problems of phosphate solubmsalion In the Soviet Union and those in India are different since the Russian soils in general are rich and Indian soils are poor in organic matter. Keywords
