Charcoal Burns

Abstract
Burns of the hands and feet caused by injudicious disposal of burning charcoals is a previously unreported cause of burn morbidity and occurs not infrequently in children in Hawaii and, likely, in other resort communities. Because burns of the hands and feet often result in need for long-term rehabilitative therapy and often serious functional loss, recognition by the pediatric community of this totally preventable problem is an important component of health and safety education. Charcoal burns in infancy generally results from improper disposal of used coals and could be completely avoided by public awareness of the scope and significance of this problem.
