Abstract
A glucose-rich polymer from cell walls of Micrococcus lysodeikticus was acidic but did not contain amino-acids, glucosamine or muramic-acid. The acidic component was an acid-labile amino-hexuronic-acid. Reduction of carboxyl-groups of the polymer to primary alcohol groups gave rise to mannosamine suggesting that the acidic component was 2-amino-2-deoxymannuronic-acid.Keywords
