Abstract
A review is presented of experimental teaching methods in the Dept. of Community Medicine of the University of Kentucky. Established in 1960, the aim of this department is to educate students in the identification and solution of health problems in community or population groups. Teaching programs include a 72 hr. basic epidemiologic course for 2nd year medical students, a 6 week community clerkship in the senior year, optional summer fellowships and 3 month electives in Kentucky or abroad. Field teaching has been characterized by analysis of all health information and activities in concert with the community practicing physician, public health officer and departmental full-time faculty. Typical health problems studied include water pollution, solid waste disposal, smoking and chronic lung diseases, virus diseases, insect venoms, and venereal disease and alcoholism. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
