Abstract
The use of the Polanyi diffusion flame technique as a diagnostic test for the identification of reactions that lead to light emission is presented. There is developed the mathematical model needed for the interpretation of such flames in which a product is responsible for the emission that is studied. The method is applied to the systems in which oxygen atoms and nitrogen atoms react with nitric oxide. The rate constant of the reaction O + NO + M → NO2 + M at 293 °K was determined as k = 1.4 × 1017 (cc/mole)2 sec−1.Keywords
