In Search for a Unified Theory for the Study of Mankind In our times, with the tremendous increase of knowledge and scientific information to a point of "near explosion," with the constant proliferation of new disciplines and subdisciplines in almost every field of science (medicine included), there is an increasingly urgent need and plea for a general and all-embracing approach in the sciences of man: an approach which will include the biological and emotional as well as the social, economic, and cultural aspects of life; an approach which will include old truths of biology and psychology as well as newly gained data from younger fields such as modern anthropology, sociology, ethology, linguistics, and cybernetics; an approach which will not overlook the wealth of Knowledge available through highly differentiated, multidimensional science—yet still allow a "monistic," practical, and realistic orientation toward the individual, with his typical characteristics
