Abstract
Angular distributions of inelastic scattering from the stable even isotopes of samarium were measured at an incident particle energy of 53.4 MeV. The data for and collective states extend to 150° for and to 100° for states in . The cross sections span approximately seven orders of magnitude. The data were analyzed with the distorted-wave Born approximation and the strong-coupling approximation. Quadrupole and octopole deformation parameters thus obtained are compared with results from analyses of proton and -particle-scattering data.
