Abstract
The folds, sinuses and saccules from III unselected larynxs removed at autopsy were examined microscopically for epithelial and subepithelial abnormalities. Squamous metaplasia and 'dysplasia' of the vestibular and vocal folds respectively, particularly the former, were commoner in men than women. Two distinct varieties of 'dysplasia' were observed, and the close relationship between 1 of them and changes, possibly of vascular origin, in the subepithelial tissues of the vocal fold suggested cause and effect.
