Carcinoma of the Colon in the First Two Decades of Life

Abstract
Nine tumors in this series had spread beyond the primary tumor by the time of operation. Seven tumors were mucoid carcinoma; this unexplained preponderance of mucoid 1059 [1966] NEOPLASMS 12864-12877 carcinoma of the colon in young persons confirms previous reports. Only 2 patients in this series are now well. It is suggested that a diagnosis of carcinoma of the colon be considered in young persons with abdominal pain or complaints referrable to the bowel which persist more than 3 to 4 weeks. Barium X-ray examination of the colon aided in diagnosis and is recommended in young persons in whom abdominal pain, constipation or vague abdominal symptoms persist for longer than 2 to 3 weeks.
