Abstract
Stimulation of the sex skin, vagina, uterus and mammary glands was effected in castrated rhesus ?[degree] by means of progesterone alone, without "priming" with estrogens. The cervix remained refractory. The sex skin reddened with 20 mg. daily but not with 5 mg. In all 4 expts. performed on 3 animals in which dosage varied from 5-20 mg. daily for 20-32 days, typical uterine bleeding followed 3 to 5 days after cessation of injs., despite the poor development of the spiral arteries of the endometrium. The endometrium was, however, "progestational," and lobular development of the mammary glands was demonstrated. The specificity of action of the steroidal hormones was evidently less strict than heretofore assumed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
