Abstract
A new method of studying the electrical properties of monomolecular films floating upon a liquid has been described. Measurements on the potential jump, dV, because of the presence of monomolecular films of oleic acid, palmitic acid, tricaprylin, and trimyristin on water have been made in order to furnish a comparison with the work of Guyot. Excellent agreement was found in all cases. In addition, Guyot's conclusion was verified that dV for fatty acids depends greatly upon the presence of a trace of sulphuric acid in the water while dV for substances like tricaprylin and trimyristin is but slightly affected by the presence of acid. Keywords
