Abstract
Some technical factors are evaluated in relation to the performance of tests of prothrombin times by clinical laboratories. Studies were done using commercial control plasmas, commercial thromboplastins, and patients' oxalated plasmas. The use of preheated thromboplastin at 37 C. and plasma at room temperature yields results comparable to those obtained using plasma at 37 C. Manufacturers are encouraged to certify their reconstituted thromboplastin for 37 C. storage stability for 8 to 24 hr. Reconstituted control plasmas should be certified stable for as long as 24 hr. at room temperature. Consideration should be given to the uniform standardization of control plasmas. Keywords
