Abstract
The Social Security Administration's Longitudinal Retirement History Study, which is designed to study the process and impact of retirement in the U.S., is described briefly. Particular attention is paid to the sample, the information obtained and its reliability and validity, the usability of the data, and to drawbacks inherent in the limited time span allocated to data gathering. This paper is intended to acquaint those interested in retirement and the life cycle with this major data set, and facilitate its use. Keywords
